Al Sumaria reported on 10 September 2009 that the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) called on political entities to support the preparation mechanism for the electoral process due early 2010. The Commission urged the Parliament to accelerate the legislation of elections law mainly after the Council of Ministers approved a draft law on Tuesday 8 September 2009 based upon many of the recommendations made by the Committee to Review the Electoral Law (CREL) in July 2009. Once received by the Council of Representatives, the draft law from the Council of Ministers will trigger a first reading (assuming there is the necessary quorum). The bill then will be referred to the Legal Affairs Committee for further consideration.
