UNAMI operates under UN Security Council Resolutions 1830, 1770, 1700, 1619, 1557, 1546 and 1500 with a mandate to advise, support and assist the Goverment and people of Iraq in a variety of ways including the development of processes for holding elections and referenda; constitutional review and the promotion of the protection of human rights and judicial and legal reform in order to strengthen the rule of law in Iraq.

The UNAMI web portal contains a wealth of reports including human rights reports in English, Arabic and Kurdish, some fantastic maps and an almost monthly report, UNAMI Focus, which in February 2009 contains a good summary of the local election results.
